Lijiang and Shuhe, China, oct 19 - 21 and oct 24 - 26, 2011

The old town of Lijiang is an UNESCO declared cultural world heritage site. The architecture is beautiful, but a bit too renovated for my taste. It reminded us in many ways of Hoi An in Vietnam. The old town sees a unbelievable five million visitors per year and therefore sometimes you have to flee from big, Chinese tour groups. The town of Shuhe is only a few minutes drive away. Maybe it has slightly less impressive architecture, but feels more laid back and less overrun by tourism.
