San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, aug 01 - aug 07, 2012

San Pedro de Atacama is a small town in northern Chile and the base to explore the Atacama desert region. The town itself is quite touristic but has good infrastructure and lovely adobe houses. The true highlights are outside of the town: the driest desert in the world, salt flats, amazing wildlife such as vizcachas and flamingos, lovely lagoons and rock formations. At an altitude between 2400m and 5000m above sea level, this region is perfect for star gazing: thin atmosphere and almost never cloudy. Our astronomy tour was amazing, we never saw that many stars before! What an amazing place!
