Sukhothai, Thailand, mar 22 – mar 24, 2011

The Sukhothai Kingdom was an early kingdom in the area around the modern-day city of Sukhothai, in north central Thailand. The Kingdom existed from 1238 till 1438. The old capital, now 12 km outside of New Sukhothai, is in ruins and has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage historical park. I once more rented a bicycle and the available audio guide and enjoyed learning about the place's history. The Sukhothai period is considered to be the birth of the Thai script and the golden-age of the most classic Thai architecture and religious art.
