Varanasi, India, nov 19 – nov 24, 2010

Varanasi is one of the world's oldest continually inhabited cities and one of the holiest places in India. Hindu pilgrims come to the ghats lining the River Ganges here to wash away a lifetime of sins in the sacred waters or to cremate their loved ones. Walking through the narrow alleyways and getting lost is as interesting as watching the devotees perform bathing rituals at the ghats. We were lucky enough to be there for the Dev Devali festival when all the ghats were lit up with small oil lights. A truly magical place!
