Amritsar, India, oct 08 – oct 12, 2010

Amritsar is home to Sikhism’’s holiest place of worship, the spectacular Golden Temple. There are four gates to the temple, which symbolize the openness of the religion. No security control is in place and everybody is welcome to visit. The temple offers free food and a place to sleep. Everything is done on a voluntary basis. You can go and help out in the kitchen, wash dishes, fold laundry and so on. All is financed by donations. I really loved the concept, and it seems to work very well, since this system exists not only here, but all Sikh temples around the country. Another highlight was the truly amazing military ceremony at the India/Pakistan border!
