Xi'an, China, nov 05 - nov 08, 2011

Xi'an was a few times the capital of China during the reign of different dynasties and is at the eastern end of the famous silk road. Todays version of the city does not remind you of the glorious past days. It's one of the many moderne chinese cities with lots of shopping centers. A bell tower dating from the 14th century finds itself today on a traffic island. We liked to stroll trough the small Chinese muslim quarter, home to a Hui community. The great mosque was fascinating for the mixture of Chinese and Arabic styles. And of course we went to visit the famous Terracotta Warriors outside of the city. Current estimates are that there are over 8000 soldiers - not two statue's faces are alike!
